Samsung has started rolling out the stable One UI 9 update for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Galaxy S23 One UI 9 stable update and the foldable builds are live in South Korea first, as of October 14, 2026. It’s based on Android 17 and brings the October 2026 security patch.
If you own one of these 2023 flagships, this is the big one you’ve been waiting for. I covered the Galaxy S23 One UI 9 timeline a couple of weeks ago, and it’s finally here. Let me walk you through the builds, who gets it first and how to install it.
Quick answer: One UI 9 (Android 17) stable is rolling out to the Galaxy S23 series (build S91xNKSU8GZIF) and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 (build F946NKSU6HZIJ / F731NKSU6HZIJ) in South Korea from October 14, 2026, with the October 2026 security patch. Other countries should follow over the next few days.
Which phones get the One UI 9 stable update today?
Five phones are part of this first wave. All of them launched in 2023 with One UI 5.1 and Android 13, and Samsung promised them four major Android upgrades. Android 17 is the fourth one, so One UI 9 is the last big version update for this lineup.
Here are the Korean builds. I matched these against our own firmware tracker, which picked up the new builds on Samsung’s servers tonight.
| Phone | Model (Korea) | Build number | Security patch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S23 | SM-S911N | S911NKSU8GZIF | October 2026 |
| Galaxy S23 Plus | SM-S916N | S916NKSU8GZIF | October 2026 |
| Galaxy S23 Ultra | SM-S918N | S918NKSU8GZIF | October 2026 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 5 | SM-F946N | F946NKSU6HZIJ | October 2026 |
| Galaxy Z Flip 5 | SM-F731N | F731NKSU6HZIJ | October 2026 |
When was it first spotted?
Tarun Vats spotted it first on X. At 1:20 PM IST he posted that Galaxy S23 beta users in Korea were getting the stable build. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 build followed at 3:38 PM IST.
Then at 5:15 PM IST came the news that matters most. According to Tarun Vats, Samsung is also pushing the Galaxy S23 update to non-beta users in Korea, so this isn’t just a beta exit anymore.
Our tracker saw the SM-F731N build at 8:05 PM IST, the SM-S916N build at 8:34 PM and the SM-S911N and SM-F946N builds at 9:03 PM IST. The Ultra (SM-S918N) hasn’t shown up in our tracker yet, but Tarun shared its build as S918NKSU8GZIF.
For the foldables, the first confirmed release is to beta testers. As SamMobile reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 update weighs about 485 MB for users coming from the last beta. If you’re coming from regular stable firmware, the package will be several times bigger.
What’s new in One UI 9 for the Galaxy S23 and Z Fold 5?
You get the same One UI 9 core that the Galaxy S25 and S26 got earlier. That means a more flexible Quick Panel you can rearrange, a location privacy indicator, better DeX, updates to Samsung Notes and new accessibility options.
Not every Galaxy AI feature will make it to these older chips. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy is still quick, but Samsung usually holds back a few on-device AI tools for newer phones. I’ll add the full changelog here once it shows up on non-beta units.

How to install the One UI 9 update on your Galaxy S23 or Z Fold 5

- Charge your phone to at least 50% and connect to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings > Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
- Wait for the download to finish, then tap Install now.
- Your phone will restart and take 15 to 25 minutes to finish the upgrade.
Don’t see it yet? That’s normal outside Korea. Samsung pushes updates in stages, so give it a few days. Our guide on what to do when the One UI 9 update is not showing covers the usual fixes.
When will other countries get it?
Going by how the Galaxy S24, Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 rollout went last week, Europe, India and the rest of Asia usually follow within one to two weeks of Korea. The US carrier and unlocked models tend to come a little later.
