One UI 9 is still rolling out to Galaxy phones, and the talk has already moved two versions ahead. Well-known tipster Ice Universe posted on X on October 17 that an independent source has confirmed One UI 10 will bring “significant changes, unprecedented in nature.”

Quick answer: As of October 19, 2026, Samsung hasn’t announced One UI 10. Ice Universe says it will be a major redesign and that it will debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 9, not the Galaxy S28. Based on Samsung’s recent pattern, that points to a launch around July 2027, most likely on Android 18.

He didn’t share a single feature. But a short reply in the same thread tells us a lot about the timing. Let me explain what we know, what we don’t, and which Galaxy phones should get it.

What Ice Universe actually said

The original post was short. Ice Universe said his source confirmed that One UI 10 is a big change and not a routine yearly update. The post crossed 90,000 views within two days, and most Samsung sites picked it up over the weekend.

Then a follower asked whether One UI 10 would arrive with the Galaxy Z Fold 9 or the Galaxy S28. Ice Universe replied with one word: Fold9.

That’s it. No screenshots, no feature list and no new name. So treat this as an early rumor from a source with a good track record, not a confirmed plan.

Why the Galaxy Z Fold 9 makes sense

This part isn’t surprising at all. Samsung has already moved its big yearly One UI release to the summer foldables.

One UI version Android base Debut device
One UI 8 Android 16 Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 (July 2025)
One UI 9 Android 17 Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 (July 2026)
One UI 9.5 Android 17 QPR2 (expected) Galaxy S27 series (early 2027)
One UI 10 Android 18 (expected) Galaxy Z Fold 9 (expected July 2027)

Here’s the pattern. The full number update now lands with the Fold, and the point five update comes with the Galaxy S series early the next year. So the Galaxy S27 should launch with One UI 9.5, and the Fold 9 picks up One UI 10 a few months later.

If you want the details on the next step first, I covered why One UI 9.5 will likely run on Android 17 QPR2 in a separate post.

SamMobile also expects One UI 10 to be based on Android 18 and to arrive in mid-2027. That lines up with the Fold 9 timing.

What could “unprecedented” mean?

Nobody knows yet, and I don’t want to guess too much. But there are a few clues worth keeping in mind.

The biggest one is the Galaxy OS rumor. Earlier this month, reports claimed Samsung might drop the One UI name and move to a new identity called Galaxy OS. SammyGuru connects the One UI 10 leak to that rumor, though it also points out that Ice Universe said nothing about a name change.

I broke down everything about that rumor in my Galaxy OS explainer. The short version is that the rename was tied to 2028 in those reports, so it may or may not line up with One UI 10.

The other clue comes from One UI 9.5 leaks. A redesigned software update screen showed up in an internal build, and some see it as groundwork for a bigger visual change. A deeper redesign of the home screen, Quick Panel and Settings would fit the word “major”, much like One UI 7 did in 2025.

Will your Galaxy phone get One UI 10?

Since One UI 10 should be an Android 18 update, eligibility depends on how many OS upgrades your phone gets. Here’s how it looks based on Samsung’s current update policy:

  • Galaxy S26, S25 and S24 series: Yes. These get seven years of OS upgrades.
  • Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8, Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6: Yes. All of these are on the seven-year policy.
  • Galaxy S25 FE and S24 FE: Yes.
  • Galaxy A56, A36 and A16: Very likely, since they have six-year update policies.
  • Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5: No. One UI 9 is their last major update.

If you own a Galaxy S23, Fold 5 or Flip 5, you can check where the final big update has reached in my post on the S23 and Fold 5 One UI 9 rollout. For every other model, the One UI 9 update tracker shows the current status by country.

What happens next

Samsung usually starts a public beta about two to three months before a new foldable launch. If One UI 10 follows the One UI 8 and One UI 9 schedule, a beta for the Galaxy S27 could open around May 2027.

Before that, the One UI 9.5 beta should start late this year or early next year. That beta may give us the first real look at where Samsung is heading.

I’ll update this story when more details about One UI 10 show up.
